The Intersection of Agriculture and Competitive Statecraft
About the Conference
In collaboration with Mississippi State University, Arizona State University’s Competitive Statecraft Initiative hosted a conference on “The Intersection of Agriculture and Competitive Statecraft.” This two-day event gathered stakeholders from academia, government, and industry to discuss the strategic role of food supplies and agriculture in national and global security. As food supplies increasingly become strategic assets—and, in some cases, instruments of warfare—the integration of agriculture into the broader national security framework has never been more critical. The conference featured remarks by U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, along with keynote addresses by Robert Kaplan, best-selling author and chair in geopolitics at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, and Brigadier General (ret.) Russell Howard. Panels covered a range of topics, including the China Belt and Road Initiative, the role of agricultural technology in statecraft, and forging food linkages between nations.
